Energetics and Authenticity

There’s only one of you… stand out from the crowd!

Your channel, your rules.

When your writing feels blocked, it’s too easy to blame yourself.
“I’m not creative.”
“I’m rubbish at this.”
“I’ve run out of ideas.”

I’m here to tell you that’s a pile of codswallop. I promise you, you are creative… What about that beautiful plant in your garden you’ve tended? What about that amazing meal you created for your family? What about that playlist you compiled for your kid’s birthday treat?

It's not about creativity. You’re not blocked - your channel isn’t connected to your energetics.

Just like a river, your voice has a natural flow. Sometimes it’s strong and gushing. Sometimes it’s gentle and steady. And sometimes, crap blocks it up. By that I mean old stories, self-doubt, tiredness, the noise of the day.

That’s when the flow stops, and you sit staring at a blank screen, inner critic screaming at you.

What do I mean by “channel”?

Your channel is the connection between your inner world and your outer one. It’s a two-way street… Energy in, magic out. It’s how energy, breath, and voice move through you and out into words.

This channel has many moving parts and any one of them (hopefully not all!) can be causing a barrier at any time.

  • Your gut is instinctive, raw, and powerful - the voice of truth that can’t be ignored.

  • Your heart is warm, connective, relational - the voice that builds trust and community.

  • Your throat is where it all comes together - the mechanism that lets your voice ring out freely.

  • Your head can bring clarity and structure - shaping the flow so it lands.

When this channel is open and connected, expression feels natural. When it’s blocked, writing feels like pushing poo uphill with a pointed stick.

Energetics: Fuel for your fire

Energy is all around us. Everything vibrates and it’s this current that we need to learn to tap into.

You know what I’m talking about. It’s the boost you get from nature when you’re out for a walk. You maybe start a walk feeling lacklustre and tired and by the time you return home you’re on fire with ideas and energy. Your walk has pulled the energy from the world around you so that you can harness its power into your work.

And, just like an electric current, when your circuit is broken, nothing flows.

If you sit down to write and feel heavy, scattered, or drained, that’s not “lack of discipline” or “not being creative”. That’s an energetic signal. Your body is telling you to pause, breathe and reconnect.

Here’s what I suggest when that happens:

Close your eyes and allow your feet to connect to the floor, grounding gently.

Take a slow breath through your nose and release it forcefully and loudly through your mouth… let the air start your flow.

Ask your body “Where do I feel blocked. Gut? Heart? Head? Throat?”

Send the breath there - literally visualising the inhale flowing into that space and the exhale opening it.

Take as many breaths as you need into that space.

Once it’s released, start on the next block and work your way until you feel ready to flow.

Then flow… on the exhale allow the breath to be your river. The usual path I follow is from belly, up spine, over top of head, down through front of throat and heart space. Back to belly for 3 cycles of breath.
— It’s slow, it’s intentional and it’s freeing.

It takes literally a few minutes and every time clears the channel to both give and receive.

Michelle records the breathwork flow designed to open your voice so it’s free to say what you need to say… with authenticity and genuine truth-telling.

Authentically you

This is why I say writing is more than just words on a page. It’s energy in flow. You’re not “forcing” copy out. You’re channeling your truth, through your body, into words which make sense to your people.

And when you write from this place, authenticity isn’t a trick or a tactic. It resonates. Your words vibrate with the same energy that runs through you.

That’s what makes a difference and that’s why people will trust you.

Soul not soil

There’s a really fine line between authentic and ick, between fearless and fake, between personal and poop. And your audience can smell it.

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a trend towards truth-telling where people think that in order to humanise their brand they need to make themselves “vulnerable”. They need to tell deeply personal stories that bare their dirty laundry to the world.

That’s not vulnerability. Rather it’s provocative and just another tactic. And that’s not what I’m talking about.

Authenticity (before the word was hijacked) and attraction marketing are about connection. Pulling your people into your space (and yes, repelling those who aren’t your people). Telling personal stories that are relevant to your understanding and appreciation of your audience. Letting your audience know that you see and hear them.

By telling these stories in your own special, unique voice, you’re showing them what it would be like to work with you. They can feel your words and a connection with you.

Your voice isn’t something you have to invent. It’s already there. You just need to open the channel and let it shine.

Want to go deeper?

Next time you feel stuck at the keyboard, don’t push harder.

Stop!

Connect with your body. Go for a five minute walk. Do a couple of DFDs (downward facing dogs). Follow my breathwork flow pattern above.

I start every single client session with breathwork so that we kick off ready to communicate fully and clearly with your audience.

Whether you’re working with me, someone else, or on your own, clear your channel and you’ll find you were creative all along… you just didn’t believe it.

P.S. A word on AI

There is a place for AI in this process too. If you’ve tried everything (breathwork, grounding, tuning into your gut or heart) and you still feel stuck, then open up Chat (or other) and ask for help.

  • Tell it what you want and let it generate a draft or some ideas.

  • Sit with it overnight, then come back the next day and ask yourself:
    • Is this really what my gut was trying to say?
    • Did it just shuffle things around so I can see new possibilities?
    • Or is it close enough that all it needs is to be filtered through my channel and my voice to feel truly mine?

AI can help shift debris in the channel. But only you can bring the resonance of authenticity.
